TELEMETRIX 501 (T501)

OVERVIEW
The RT Logic Telemetrix® 501 (T501) offers an innovative, full-function, high-availability architecture for satellite control center front ends. The T501 incorporates advanced technology to package up to four modular front-ends (slices) in a single rack-mount chassis. Each hot-swappable T501 slice supports four streams and connects via a plug-and-play USB interface. The T501 host chassis contains two redundant, hot-swappable power supplies and a hot-swappable fan assembly to offer high availability for mission critical operations.

APPLICATION
The T501 slice connects to a rack-mount, server-class PC that hosts the data transfer and device control software for each T501. This server PC can be standalone or shared with the telemetry/command server used by the satellite TT&C software. The T501 software interface is backwards compatible with our Telemetrix 505 (T505), protecting the customer’s software investment. A Java-based interface supports configuration and status of the T501 chassis and T501 slices.

Telemetry process functions include format conversion, frame synchronization, and IRIG/NTP time-tagging. The T501 can be configured to support TDM or CCSDS processing, including Reed-Solomon decoding and VCDU/packet processing. The T501 can also be used to generate simulated telemetry streams for loopback testing. Data recording/replay are supported via the host server PC.

Command processing functions include conversion to an uplink encryptor’s ternary format, fill command generation, and command echo checking. COP-1 telecommand processing is supported.

The T501 is designed for compatibility with the traffic interfaces for all commonly used encryption/decryption equipment including KG61/62s (Elwell), Mykotronx units, and the KI-17. The T501 device control software provides a common, network-based means for monitoring and control of KG equipment.

PLUG-AND-PLAY
Each T501 slice is configurable via XML files that download the module’s personality. T501 slices are completely interchangeable, requiring minimal spares to support the full satellite control center.

REDUCED SIZE/
COMPLEXITY

Each T501 slice supports four telemetry/command streams in a modular, small footprint (1.6-inch x 5-inch x 9-inch). A rack-mount host chassis (3U (5.25-inch) tall) supports up to four T501s.

The T501 has no internal cabling for data and control/status signals. Internal backplanes provide convenient breakout of the RS-422 telemetry/command (HD-26s), IRIG (BNCs), and USB connections at the rear of the chassis.

HIGH AVAILABILITY
Each T501 slice is hot-swappable. Replacement and reconfiguration of a failed slice requires fewer than 90 seconds. The host chassis has redundant, hot-swappable power supplies for continuous operations. The fan assembly is also hot-swappable.
