TELEMETRIX 500 GATEWAY PROTOCOL TRANSLATOR (T500GT)

OVERVIEW
Control centers (satellites, UAVs, missiles), ground stations, test sites, and payload processing facilities are migrating from dedicated serial interconnections to commercially available IP networks. Interoperable, network-centric communications are goals of the Global Information Grid (GIG) roadmap. The T500GT connects existing serial-based ground telemetry systems to the GIG.

The T500GT encapsulates the network, making it transparent to the ontime delivery of deterministic digital/digitized signals. The T500GT translates between custom serial protocols utilized by TLM/TC equipment and standards-based network protocols, such as CCSDS SLE, AFSCN Interoperability protocols and TENA. Backward compatibility is provided to the ADCCP protocol, serial/ternary cryptographic equipment, SGLS, USB, and other widely used protocols.

Serial TLM and TC signals are transported via a choice of IP protocols between a local T500GT and a remote T500GT. Variable network latency is factored out by rate buffers and a deterministic data time-tagging scheme that embeds time-tags from an IRIG/GPS time source. In a standalone configuration, the T500GT translates TLM/TC streams to/from standard protocols, such as CCSDS SLE or rate buffers high-rate TLM over a slower network.

The T500GT understands the format and protocol of satellite TLM and TC streams, allowing it to efficiently perform conversion to and from packets. Each protocol is uniquely handled to protect against lost or stale data, and to ensure ontime delivery. Protocol conversions are implemented in dynamically linked libraries, allowing easy tailoring of the T500GT. The T500GT also supports classic TT&C front-end processing, such as command formatting, CCSDS/TDM frame synchronization, IRIG time stamping, and crypto control and monitoring.

MODULAR, DIGITAL DESIGN
The T500GT is a high-performance, real-time, high-rate digital processing system and protocol translator with dynamically reconfigurable algorithms. The T500GT has a full range of firmware and software personality options for processing high-rate CCSDS/TDM telemetry, multiplexing/demultiplexing, Time-Data Correlation (TDC), IRIG time-stamping/generation, PCM simulation, derandomization, error detection and correction (BER, Reed-Solomon, CRC), archive, digital/analog recording, playback, and custom functions.

The T500GT is a server-class PC running a real-time Linux OS with hot-swappable disk drives, dual hot-swappable power supplies, Intel Xeon CPU, dual Gb Ethernet ports, and RT Logic digital processor cards. It is available in 1U, 2U, or 5U configurations, and mounts in a 19-inch rack. Multiple I/O options are available including TTL, RS-422, D-ECL, and LVDS signal lines to support a wide variety of signal interfaces and data rates. The modular design of the RT Logic Telemetrix® software architecture permits easy tailoring of a standard T500GT configuration to meet customer-specific requirements. The system is compatible with other RT Logic products, such as the USB/SGLS T70/70XL modem and the T505, as well as third-party systems.
