TELEMETRIX SIGNAL EMULATOR SYSTEM (T400SE)

OVERVIEW
The RT Logic Telemetrix® Signal Emulator System (T400SE) provides a flexible, programmable platform for simultaneuously emulating 8 or more carriers at the standard SATCOM uplink and downlink frequencies for C-, X-, and Ku-bands. The system is based on RT Logic’s Telemetrix Frequency Conversion and Signal Processing System (T400FC), High-Rate Digitizer (DG4000), and the Telemetrix 400 Channel Simulator (T400CS). With the versatility of these components, an almost endless array of signals, modulations, and transmission link parameters can be generated. These emulations can be accomplished in a static or time-varying dynamic manner for satellite ground, test, and training applications.

The Transportable System is shown with C-band, X-band, and Ku-band Frequency Converters. This system emulates a full transponder of a Communications Satellite and jamming signals. The standard package for the T400SE is a 5U, 19-inch, rack-mount system. For applications requiring support for fewer RF bands, a 2U option is available.

The Signal Emulator System uses RT Logic’s DG4000 with our signal generator firmware personality implemented in an onboard FPGA producing BPSK, DPSK, QPSK, OQPSK, 8PSK, MSK, FSK, AM, FM, and CW in any combination up to 40 MHz bandwidth. The combined signal is processed by a Channel Simulator to provide transmission link impairments, such as Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN), Rain Fade, Doppler, and Range Delay.

For dynamic orbital emulation, a range profile is generated and downloaded to the channel simulator by a separate controller, providing orbital simulations and time-interpolated signal variations. This test executive software also provides scripted, sequenced signals in predefined scenarios enabling a test engineer or trainer to select or create a scenario that runs the same set of signals with the same characteristics and transmission link parameters as many times as desired, with each iteration being predictable, stable, and accurate.

APPLICATION
  • Performance Testing
  • Training
  • Satellite Simulation
  • Communication Link Simulations
  • BER Loopback Testing
Signal emulation finds many applications in testing and training. The Signal Emulator system has the ability to present time-varying transmission links, so it is especially useful for emulating a satellite uplink, downlink, or complete earth station-to-satellite-to-earth station link. It provides the ability to emulate a full satellite transponder (up to 40 MHz bandwidth), with as many signal modulation types as desired, and introduce transmission link emulation so the signals appear to be originating from geosynchronous, middle, or low earth orbit communications satellites. With sufficient Signal Generator cards, interfering and jamming signals (Red on Blue, Blue on Blue, Gray on Blue) can be imposed on an emulated transponder for EW and Counter Space test, training, and tactic validation applications. Modem and Satellite Test applications leverage the transmission link parameter emulation capability to provide testing capability beyond the typical Modulation type, bandwidth, C/No, Eb/No, SNR, and BER. Because the system is modular, the number and types of signals, bandwidth, and individual transmission channels are limited only by the number of Signal Generator and Channel Simulator cards with which the system is equipped.

The Signal Emulator System can be configured as a multi-channel signal generator with virtually unlimited channel count using multiple DG4000 cards as four-channel signal generators. If an external signal source is already available, the System can be configured to do link emulation only for as many channels as desired. Each independent link channel would be provided by its own separate DG4000 Channel Simulator. Proper RF conditioning, mixing, switching and frequency conversion can then be applied by Signal Conditioning Modules in the T400 chassis or by a separate Signal distribution Chassis that is purpose built.

The controller can provide direct manual control of the various sections of the Signal Emulator System, as well as using user selectable or generated automated scripts. Virtual Instrument personalities for direct control of the system blocks are available to the user at any time.
