HIGH-RATE SIGNAL PROCESSOR (DG5000)

OVERVIEW
The RT Logic High-Rate Signal Processor (DG5000) provides a flexible digital platform for IF and baseband signal processing functions. The card, which is designed for use in Compact PCI (cPCI) or Ethernet-based systems, can take on unique personalities supporting a variety of application-specific receiver and modulator functions. The hardware features a highperformance Analog-To-Digital Converter (ADC) and Digitalto-Analog Converter (DAC), tightly coupled to a Xilinx Virtex-5 Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) with local high-speed memory. Because the digital processing is implemented in firmware, the DG5000 is easily tailored to specific customer requirements. The DG5000 provides a versatile digital processing solution for satellite ground, spacecraft test, and range/flight test applications.

APPLICATION
The DG5000 RF front-end bandpass filters the input signal (IF) and samples it at 213 Msps with a 12-bit ADC. The signal samples are processed by the onboard FPGA according to the firmware personality loaded into the device. A microSD (µSD) card contains the personality firmware and software. Under the control of a configuration file or via a command, the DG5000 can quickly assume new personalities. For high-speed local storage, the DG5000 has 512 MB of DDR2 SDRAM. A front-panel port is provided for trigger input or output signals. An optional Fiber interface can operate in Fiber-Ethernet mode or provide output data at rates up to 4.26 Gbps (213 Msps).

In addition to the digitizing function, RT Logic optionally provides firmware personalities for the DG5000 that support digital downconversion, signal emulation, pulse generation, channel simulation, filtering, decimation, PSK and PM carrier demodulation, subcarrier B/QPSK demodulation, and Viterbi decoding. The high quality of the analog front-end and ADC makes the DG5000 an ideal component in a Digital Spectrum Analysis system. The onboard, dual-output DAC and signal generation firmware provide signal outputs that include BPSK, DPSK, QPSK, OQPSK, SOQPSK-TG, SOQPSK-MIL, 8PSK, MSK, FSK, AM, FM, and CW.

DIGITAL IMPLEMEN-
TATION

The DG5000’s digital implementation eliminates the need for tuning, provides outstanding performance across data rates, and eliminates device variability. The 213 Msps ADC allows the DG5000 to support carrier PSK and PM demodulation, subcarrier demodulation, and digital sampling functions.

The DG5000 is configurable with one or more of RT Logic’s firmware application personalities to handle high-speed measurement filtering, decimation, and FFT processing. RT Logic can also customize firmware application personalities or develop new ones for specific customer requirements.

The DG5000 module is part of RT Logic’s family of Telemetrix® Dynamic Digital Processors. This set of modules supports the full spectrum of IF/baseband processing, signal modulation, and digital front-end functions, and offers the latest leading edge digital technology.
